My name is Brandon Houston.  I run a one-man studio called Logix that I started in 2003.  Currently I focus on web design and development.  My main interest is in graphic design and I like to convey as much creativity in my work as possible.  I’ve been a traditional artist for as long as I can remember, since picking up my first crayon.  Eventually I delved into computers and advanced into the technical side of things.  A part of me still had the urge to design so I left the technician in me behind and merged the two fields of art and computers into a career.

I originally obtained a job working for a design firm in my home town in 1999.  I started as a junior web designer working out concepts in Photoshop and slicing layouts together.  I quickly moved up the ladder into a Design Manager position until that company came to an end in 2003.

It was at that point I decided (which I had wanted to do for a couple years) to start my own business.  During the course of working for the first company I did a lot of networking.  I worked on contract for the now defunct Friends of Ed publishing doing technical review work for several of their Flash books.  I joined a lot of design communities and gained a lot of freelance work.  One-time contract kind of deals.  As I found myself suddenly unemployed I started contacting my old freelance contacts.  That brought in a little work.  Then several of the old clients from my old firm found out I had gone into business and started calling me up.  Since then I’ve been gaining a steady flow of new clients and retaining old ones.   I have worked with clients in the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and England.  That’s where I find myself today.

I want to continue expanding my business.  I love being self-employed, although it usually means working a lot more than the usual 9-5.  I want to eventually shift my business into more of a design-focused firm.  Right now most of my clients are regular businesses and corporations.  Getting involved in the entertainment industry would be ideal.  I’ve always been more of a creative than a developer so that’s really where my biggest joy comes from.  I’d like to travel as well.  I’ve worked with clients all over but it’s always been remotely.  Just once I’d like to score that one contract and they say to me, hey, why not come down to L.A. for a few weeks to work on the project.  We’ll pay the expenses.  Ah to dream…

That’s enough about me.  How about you?  I’d like to hear from everyone in the Speak Up section.
