Client PortalIn an effort to provide our clients a way to keep directly involved in their project, Logix has rolled out a project portal. All of our projects and communication is now managed through this portal providing an easy way for clients to keep up to date on the status of their project, submit requests, upload files to us, preview design concepts and generally stay involved in the entire project from start to finish. Response towards the portal has been great so far and we look forward to utilizing it for every new client.

To access the portal there is currently a button at the top right of logixstudios.com. This will take the client to a login page where they will enter their assigned username and password. Each project and client is password protected to keep the project accessible to only that client. A client company can be set up to have multiple logins so employees can each have their own user account.

New Logix Logo Here is a small look at the new Logix brand identity. We’ll be launching a new marketing campaign over the next little while featuring some unique mailers and promo kits. The website is still in development and we want to make sure its fully fleshed out before we roll it out. If you want to be notified of the full launch feel free to subscribe to this blog. If you’re interested in receiving one of our marketing kits send me an email at bhouston@logixstudios.com and I’ll add you to the list. I will be posting shots of the kit online here once they’re ready. On another note I’m pleased to announce the addition of a couple new clients to the Logix client list. Rolling Stone Magazine and Us Magazine contracted Logix for a couple programming projects and a banner campaign. Wenner Media is the parent company that owns both magazines and it’s been a pleasure working with them. I’m excited to be adding them to our growing list of clients.

Additionally Logix has been asked to complete a video presentation for the Myles Miracle Mission CANcer Assist Wellness Centre. The video will be displayed in the front lobby of the Wellness Centre once it is completed and will display sponsors.

Duke's Harley-Davidson IntroJust a small post today to present the new Flash intro for the Duke’s Harley-Davidson website. A photo of the storefront was used in place of the old image and the animation was scaled back a bit. The same hand-drawn pinstripe is present but this time the logo reflects in the water in front of the store. A bit of Actionscript animation was used to animate the water and make it ripple.

Overall I think the effect turned out pretty well. It’s a relatively simple intro but effective for the client’s needs.  To check out the new intro go to www.dukeshd.com

So far this month has been very busy. There has been a lot of in-house development going on along with several new clients, including one high-profile North American magazine.

Mizar Photos LogoFirst on the list was the final branding of Mizar Photos for Utah-based Photographer Brandon Mizar.

The goal of the new logo was to provide an elegant and sophisticated look while establishing a memorable image. I’m very happy with how the final design turned out, as was the client. The logo was reproduced on business cards and as a large banner for a recent wedding show the client was attending.

This month I also want to introduce the local online magazine project that Logix is developing. Soon to find a home at chathamkent.com, the new magazine will be called Powerhouse. As mentioned previously, it will be a local business magazine featuring new and established businesses in Chatham-Kent. It will also offer advice and be a way for businesses to communicate to each other.

Powerhouse MagazineHere is the first look at the initial concept of Powerhouse Magazine. It is currently still in development, but this is a first look at the design concept. Currently the magazine is being developed with three main sections, Feature, Focus, and Discussions. The Feature section will identify a local business and include a company bio, general overview, interview with owner and contact details.

Each issue will have a focus on a specific topic of interest to local Chatham-Kent entreprenuers. The Focus column will go in-depth to identify the topic and fully cover it. It could be ideas on bringing in new business, how to start a business, marketing, or any other ideas of interest at the current time.
The Discussions column is going hopefully be an evolving section that will bring business people to discuss a certain topic, brainstorm ideas and offer advice. Each topic will differ and the objective will always be different. Ultimately we would like to pull together some great business minds in Chatham-Kent to discuss and debate topics.

The official launch date hasn’t been determined yet, but articles are currently in planning and the site structure is being programmed as I post this, so keep checking back for updates.

Ontario Sportsman's JournalAnother recent project that has been launched is the Ontario Sportsman’s Journal. OSJ is an online magazine for the Ontario outdoors enthusiast. Its purpose is to provide relevant articles and resources for hunters and fishermen.

The OSJ website is built off the Joomla content management system with several customizations to meet the client’s needs. Logix was contracted as the development company to set up and program the site in coordination with JAG Marketing who designed the overall image of the site.

Although the website just launched recently it has managed to obtain a strong readership and logged just over 48,000 hits for January and has already reached 50,000 for February as of the 19th.

And what about the new Logix website you ask? Well that one is still under wraps for now while we finalize some branding decisions. So for now we’ll leave it at coming soon…

Happy New Year! The new year tends to bring change and growth, and for Logix it is no different. I would like to first officially welcome Brian Gallagher to the Logix team. Logix has been quickly gaining momentum over the last few months and it was time to expand to meet our growing client needs. He will be a great addition and I look forward to working with him.

Logix is also working on a few new initiatives in the new year. Currently under way are a few new websites, including a brand package for a Utah-based Photographer that will include a logo, business card and letterhead. In the coming months Logix will also be launching an online business magazine at www.chathamkent.com. Formerly the location of the TagIt project, we decided before Christmas to use it for something more appropriate and launch a magazine that focuses on business in the Chatham-Kent area. We hope to bring new light to the growth that is happening and promote our local entrepreneurs.

One of our core focuses for 2008 will be on brand building. As a business your brand is the single most important aspect of conveying your image to the world. Often times your logo is the first thing a potential customer will see. It should be at the forefront of every piece of marketing material you have, and it should tie it all together. We want to help companies tie together all of their marketing materials and strengthen their presence. Online, offline, and everywhere in between, Logix is going to help build stronger brands starting with our own over the next few months.

It’s been a little while since my last post, and for good reason. Things have been busy in the studio and I’m currently looking at expanding in 2008. My most recent update is a branding project that was completed a few weeks ago for a website name In4mador (www.in4mador.com). The client was looking at updating the identity of the In4mador brand and came to Logix. After some consultation with the client over email to lay out a direction, I’m proud to present the new brand identity of In4mador:

In4mador Header

Click on the image to view a larger version. The update consisted of a new logo as well as a login built into the header and new navigation bar. I’m proud of the outcome and the client was very excited.

Aside from that small project work has been underway since October on a large project that involves developing educational components for the Ontario school system. In co-ordination with another development company, the contract work will continue through 2008. This has sparked a need for expansion. The work is great and I’m excited to be able to give something back to our educational system.

Keep an eye out for many new things to come over the next few months.

Smugglers Marina & RoadhouseIf you’re looking for a good time and great food and you’re in Southwestern Ontario, check out Smugglers Marina & Roadhouse in Lighthouse Cove. Smugglers was recently renamed from Radlin’s and offer a wide range of services, food, and activities.

Logix was contracted to design the new website which just launched this week.

www.smugglersroadhouse.com

The site features information on the history of Smugglers, as well as featured events on the front page and a photo gallery of past events. If you’re looking for somewhere to park your boat, they offer pricing online as well as a list of amenities. Plans are to keep the website very active and updated frequently. It was mainly designed using HTML/CSS with no PHP due to limitations of the existing hosting company, but eventually it will be upgraded to offers things such as a monthly newsletter, a larger photo gallery, and several other features to bring people back to the site.

Zandoli WebsiteIt may be nearing autumn, but that doesn’t mean the warm days need to end. This week marks the launch of the new Zandoli Inn website.

www.zandoli.com

Zandoli Inn is located on the island of Dominica (not to be confused with the Dominican Republic) It is one of the Caribbean islands.

The website was designed by Mary Ingels and was then handed off to me for programming. It was developed using HTML and CSS as well as PHP for the reservation and request system. An SSL connection was set up to secure the reservation form and it includes some heavy encryption as well on the PHP end of things to ensure a safe submission.

Soon to come is the Smugglers Marina and Roadhouse website which I mentioned in a previous post. It’s been in planning for quite a while and production has finally started on it. Along with Smugglers, there will be a few more updates released soon regarding other design projects and a new service being offered. I’ve also been contracted for a huge programming job which starts next month which will keep things busy on into the new year.

C. Penelope Duchesnewww.cpenelope.com
C. Penelope Duchesne is a local painter who does some amazing work. Anyone local to Chatham has no doubt seen the mural on the side of the Navistar building. Today marks the launch of her new website, designed and developed by Logix. The website acts as a marketing tool for her to reach out to new potential clients and aims to showcase some of her best completed works. From murals to residential work, Penelope covers a wide range of abilities.

The project was completed using HTML and CSS and was designed with a slight old Victorian theme at the request of the client.  The faint florishes in the background along with the browns and maroons were used to give it a soft look to allow the main focus of the site, the artists work, to draw the main attention.  The site was also designed slightly minimal to not distract from the artists work.  Overall I’m very happy with the outcome and may even write up a case study to outline the process used to build the site.

ist1_3257872_western_saddle_shallow_depth_of_field.jpgToday marks my first day back to work after a week long vacation out East.  For anyone else self-employed I can’t stress enough how important taking a bit of time off is to your mind and body.  I feel totally recharged and ready to take on anything.  For a while there I was really starting to feel drained and getting away for the week helped incredibly.

So now it’s time to jump back into the daily grind and pump out some work.  New things are in the pipeline so keep an eye out.
